Course description

Course: DEL1 Digital electronics 1
Placement: 1. semester Length: One semester ECTS credits:5 Hours pr week: 4
Written: 22-6-2000 Revised: 12-2-2003
Objective: To understand and design combinational and synchronous sequential digital circuits, and to implement these circuits in programmable devices like PLD components. Further to use XILINX Foundation for this implementing work.
Main contents: Number systems, truth tables, combinational circuits, flip-flop's, sequential circuits, VHDL program templates and programmable logic devices of the type PLD.
Educational form: Mostly class teaching with exercises but also group work concerning projects and practice in the laboratory.

Marks: Pass/Fail
Remarks: Some journals for assignment exercises must be handed in and approved. In the last week of the semester a written test of 2 hours duration, has to be passed, to pass the course.

The prerequisite for taking the test is the journals can be approved before the day on which the test takes place.

Xilinx WebPack/Foundation ISE is used as a tool for designing digital electronics.
